King cake

This is a King Cake, a traditional cake eaten on Three Kings Day. Three Kings Day is celebrated on January 6th and it’s a Spanish holiday. Instead of Christmas, Three Kings Day is celebrated. In the Bible, it is when the Three Wise Men visited baby Jesus after his birth and brought him presents. Inside of the King Cake there is a handful of baby Jesus toys.  Whenever you get one instead of your slice of bread, you have to make a dish at the following family reunion. My family, however, celebrates both Christmas and Three Kings Day so we get double the presents. My birthday is January 6 so instead of a traditional birthday cake, we eat the Kings Cake. My mother did this as a child and her mother did this as a child too. We do this every year.
