Jolyn's Stethoscope

My Grandmother's Stethoscope

This stethoscope belonged to my grandmother, Jolyn or Grandma Joe as I called her. My grandma was born in North Dakota and was the second oldest child of Agnes and Joe Kostelecky. She was born in 1939 and sadly passed away in 2019. She went to college in Helena, Montana to become a nurse. She got married to my grandpa Dennis and had five kids. She took care of her kids on the weekdays but on the weekends continued to passionately care for people through nursing. When her kids grew older she became a full time nurse once more. She retired in 2009 to spend more time with her family. One thing I really loved about her was that she always had a smile wherever I saw her. She was always super sweet and wherever I went over to her house the first thing I needed to do was to give her a bear hug. Going over to her house and opening her ottoman full of books worn by love and age. They smelled like heaven. Her stethoscope was one of the tools she used when she was a nurse. Whenever I see it I’m reminded of her willingness to care for everybody and to help those who need it. I really hope to carry these memories with me when I’m older and to never ever forget the importance of being kind to others and to never stop caring.
