Handmade Jesus Crib

The artifact that my family and I have chosen to represent our family is a Christmas crib. The reason that I chose this is that it is an object that was made by my great grandfather. It is all made of wood and he made both the stable and all the figures. My great grandfather had a hobby of creating figures in wood, and he was a skilled carpenter. This Christmas crib has been with our family since my mother was a child. Each year when we decorate for Christmas the Christmas crib reminds us of family and unity. It also symbolizes the Christian tradition and Christian faith. I find it interesting to see all the details of the figures in the Christmas crib. When I look at the details I get impressed by the patience and the talent that lies behind the creation. My great grandfather died when my mother was young, so I never had the chance to meet him. During Christmas each year, we get reminded of his life and work when we look at the Christmas crib. Christmas is a time of the year when you want to be with your family. Due to my mother’s work we have lived in different parts of the world, and have not always had the possibility to be with the extended family during Christmas. By having the family tradition of the Christmas crib present in our house, we still get a family-connection, no matter where in the world we live during Christmas.
