This is my grandmother Jeanette Marie Lawler (Duplessis). She was born in Presque Isle, Maine in 1938. Her parents immigrated to the United States around 1920 from New Brunswick, Canada. Her first language was French, and she didn’t learn English till she was 13. Jeanette was a very shy child growing up and was nicknamed Peanut because she was very short and petite. After high school, she worked at a bank and loved to attend movies, where she later met my grandfather, Harold Harvey Lawler, who ran the projector. After he asked her out on their first date he accidentally stood her up. He left a note apologizing on her car and asked for a second chance. They were married in 1961. She traveled with him while he was in the Air Force. They were stationed in England, France ( my uncle Mark was born there), New Mexico (my mother Tina was born there), California, and Michigan. She raised both of her children mostly independently because Harold was often away from home. After Harold was done serving in the Air Force they moved to Bakersfield, California. With all the constant moving, Jeanette became a homebody. Growing up I remember spending time with her by feeding the deer and chipmunks around their property in Rainier Oregon, and watching lots of movies. She was a very sweet and silly lady, but she had a spicy personality.
