My object is a picture of the Jamestown Fort. Jamestown was the first English settlement in America. It is important because I am descended from a person who immigrated here. It is where my family first lived when they came to America.The person who immigrated here was John Chandler; a chandler was a candle maker. John Chandler came when he was 10 years old. He came in the aftermath of the “starving time”; a period in which many colonists starved due to war with the Powhatan Indians. They were very close to abandoning the colony.
