Indian Statue

Group:

My object is my Great Grandmother's Indian statue from when she came to New York. My Great Grandmother was born in Puerto Rico in 1937 and she was raised knowing only one language, Spanish. She had to leave Puerto Rico because there were no money and no jobs. When she came to New York, she was scared because she knew that it would be hard for her, since she didn't speak English and she wouldn't have any family here. Her mother gave her this statue so that she could feel more comfortable and it is the only thing she brought from Puerto Rico. She eventually started her own family and passed this statue down to us. In all of my families' households, they have similar statues. This statue means a lot to me and my family because it represents peace and prosperity and that any hardships can be overcome.
