House Key
This key was given to me by my parents on my 12th birthday to symbolize my maturity and growth into a young adult. Before then, the only real "adult" thing I would do during my day was walk from my school bus stop to my home, a mere one block walk. The key was a way for my parents to recognize my sovereignty and show their trust in me to take care of myself, even when not under their roof and care. As immigrants to this country, my parents have always stressed the importance of safety and taking care of yourself first so you can further your aspirations and goals. This trust that I have obtained shows that my parents were ready for me to grow up and begin taking care of myself.
