This is a picture of a special type of firework that is connected to my cultural heritage. After immigrating to America, I always kept the memories from the time growing up in China. In my memory, on every holidays and special occasions like wedding or graduation, families and friends will gather together to share our time together. It is a way to express our happiness and joy to each other. Especially on Chinese New Year, you will hear the sound of fireworks from the streets and other families. It means to have a new blessing and happy year. However, after I moved to the United States, I noticed that we are not allowed to celebrate with fireworks with our families or friends because it is illegal. We can only see fireworks on special holidays in public spaces. Whenever I hear or see fireworks, it reminds me of the time with my grandparents, uncle and cousins when I was back in China. Immigration has changed my life completely. Adapting to a new culture, new environment, new language and meeting new people are all challenges my parents and I went through.
