Hamsa

"We're all stories in the end, just make it a good one, eh?" - The 11th Doctor (Doctor Who) The object in the image is a Hamsa, it's a blessing that can be worn or can be hung from a wall. The blessing protects you from the evil eye. The evil eye is a curse that is put on you when someone looks at you badly. This curse is protected by the Hamsa which is seen in many cultures. The one above is a Hamsa from Judaism. This object, can be seen as any old blessing, but to me, it represents a story. The story is one of many, yet only achieved  by few. The idea is seen when my great-grandfather Yusif got rescued by his friends from the Nazis, it is seen when my people won the war only to go back to the same oppression. The USSR won against the Nazis and stopped their reign of evil, only to practice it in their own land. My family couldn't practice their own religion, which was unethical. The USSR forbid the practice of any religion, though it just seemed fair that they would let it go, considering the death toll because of it. After my family and my people were killed and discriminated against by the Nazis, we couldn't go back and practice the same religion that the Nazis killed us over, anytime during that one little bullet could have ended my story. My family had to stop praying, stop showing that they had faith in order to please the people in power. It all ended when my family got all they could and moved. This Hamsa represents a story of perseverance, one that I will never forget.
