Hamilton “947 Special”
My family artifact is my great grandfather’s 1928 Hamilton “947 Special” pocket watch. It is a circular watch with a white face and black numbers. It can fit in the palm of your hand. There is a knob to wind the pocket watch, but it does not work anymore. The watch is made of 10 karat gold and glass to see the numbers. My great grandfather worked on the Panama Canal. He used this watch to see what time it was. It has been passed on to my grandfather. His mom, my great grandmother, saved it for him because his father passed away before he was born. My great grandfather was going to give it to his son himself. Then my grandfather gave it to my dad to keep. My dad keeps it in his drawer in the bedroom. My grandfather died about three months before I was born. My dad takes the pocket watch out a few times a month. This pocket watch is almost one hundred years old. It is important to my family because it tells an interesting story and it has been passed down for generation to generation.
