Haitian Food
My name is Marie Berthe. I was born in Haiti, and my parents are both Haitian too. The first person in my family that came to the United States was my father when I was 11 years old. My mother raised us alone in the house. I have 2 big rothers and 2 little sisters. When my father had his residency, he applied for us to come too, but everybody didn’t come at the same time. In 2001, I was going to turn 21 years old. We received a letter to present to the US Embassy in Haiti before my birthday on September 15, 2001. But September 11 happened, I got stuck in Haiti and waited for 8 more years. My Mom and my two young sitters had the chance to come in January 2002. After the earthquake in 2010, in November I had finally the chance to come here. I really love my country because it is a tropical country, but I came here to find a better life. I love the new culture here too, but I am still stuck to my Haitian food.
