1991, my mother was just 6 years when she arrived in the Untied States. It was just her and and her mother ready to find new adventures that awaited here. My grandmother enrolled my mother to an elementary called "P.S. 81" which started her education journey in this new life she had come to. Navigating her way to a "normal" life in the U.S. was hard at the time where everybody around her spoke English while she was not to fluent in the language as of yet. She still held her own and pushed through school not being held by nothing. These language barriers that may come as an obstacle to anyone else, was just a mindset she avoided using as an excuse to fall behind. This "greca" is just a part of her history she brought from her hometown where she can feel as if she were still there. Finding that comfort in foods, items, dances that were performed in D.R. were how till this day our family retain our culture. This item is just a small memory of a life she used to have that she is fond of but does not feel the need to force her way back. She came to the United States to find herself and that she did. Growing and building a family of her own was in her words "the only fulfillment and happiness she needs". This meaning that even with all these things to be fond of in this country, her job, friends, places she has gone to. To be that level headed and know that that our lord and savior Jesus Christ will protect her and her actions do not go in vain.
