Great Grandfather's Helmet

Great Grandfather's WWII Helmet
Great Grandfather's WWII Helmet

My great grandfather fought in WWII for the United States and was deployed in Russia, he fought in the trenches and kept his dry socks in his helmet. One day, he looked up from the trenches and a sniper shot him in his helmet which ricocheted into the socks instead of his head. The socks saved his life and by the end of the war my great grandfather had both a medal of honor and a purple  heart.
