Grandparents Cross

Grandparent's cross from Mexico
Grandparent's cross from Mexico

My grandparents from my dad's side of the family emigrated from Mexico to the U.S. when they were sixteen years old. They both immigrated together crossing the Rio Grande also known as the Rio Bravo del Norte. My grandparents both came with just a few a pair of clothes and this cross to remind them of Mexico. Both my grandpa and grandma were very religious people believing that everything will be fine through the name of God. They were hesitant to cross over because in their eyes they were committing a sin, but they were coming to the U.S. to live the American dream. There was very little opportunity in Mexico at the time, but their main focus was to work and give a better life to their future kids. Just like the Chinese immigrants when they left China to pursue all of the opportunities the U.S. gave them like employment, and the right to own land in the U.S. and in China. My grandparents did the same thing because the economy was harsh and they were practically living day by day to try and get enough money for a meal. My grandparents crossing isn't just a background of our religious beliefs, but also of our faith because of their hard work, and determination that I'm able to live the life I want. The cross that my grandparents brought from Mexico is still hung up in my grandma's kitchen to show, and remind us that faith can get you through anything.
