My Grandma Frances

The item I chose is a beautiful picture of my Grandma Frances. Though our family migration story actually starts with her mother, my great-grandmother Makayla (Mickey) who was an orphan from Mexico. The reason I chose a picture a of my Grandma is because she was the matriarch of our family, she had nine children and over forty grandchildren when she passed and she gave us everything. My Grandma gave my family our love, our culture, our story and even though her mother was an orphan she gave us a strong connection to our Mexican roots and also instilled pride in us for our current home. She loved living in Ventura County California, I will always remember her listening to music and cooking food for the party we would be having to watch 805's hometown boy Vargas box that night. My family's history and migration story is one of love, food, music, family and passion.
