My mom's necklace

My object is a gold necklace from Ecuador that my mom got from her grandparents, my great grandparents. My grandmother immigrated from Ecuador in 1965. This necklace has a lot of value and meaning behind it, because in Ecuador which is where some of my family is from, religion is a very important thing. It was given as a gift to my mother on her seventh birthday from her grandparents who lived in Ecuador. They got the necklace from a jeweler in Guayaquil, Ecuador, which is where they are from. I asked my mother why this necklace was of such importance to her and she said, “because my abuela and my abuelo gave it to me for my 7th birthday.” They came up from Ecuador to see my mom for her birthday. I asked her what her first memory of the necklace was and she said, “Looking at it in the light and seeing a rosy tint on the medallion and how pretty it was.” She went on to say, how she really liked the medallion because she was happy and excited to match her grandmother who had a necklace that she always wore that looked similar. The necklace is still worn today during large religious ceremonies and masses.
