Gold Cross necklace
This necklace came from my great-grandmother, Ulga Jakobsen. She came to the United States from Norway on a ship during World War II. She came from a very religious Lutheran family, and all three of her children, including my grandmother, grew up in the Lutheran church. In the Lutheran faith, confirmation is a large part of it, confirming your relationship to Christ. When her eldest daughter, she gave this necklace to my grandmother (or mormor) Karen. Years later, my own mother was confirmed in the Lutheran church, and she passed that necklace on to her. My mother wore this necklace everyday until it slowly made its way out of her day to day. However, a few years ago, I got confirmed. Not in the Lutheran church like my descentents, but in the Catholic church my father attends. On the day of my confirmation, my mother passed this on to me, to wear as long as I can.
