I don't know much about my ancestors, and the fact that I don't live in Mexico like they did is even harder to connect to your roots. However, I do know that In my culture the bracelets are given to babies and kids. They're made of gold and other metals to make it resistant to the young biting them and playing with them. These bracelets almost always contain a small first charm that absorbs the envy from others so it does not reach the infant, and the bracelet's purpose is to protect the infant from the evil eye. I received one in 2010. It was a gift from my grandmother who lived in Mexico. The bracelet had a small elephant charm and my name engraved in the middle of the bracelet. My grandmother gifted it a few weeks after I was born, and six years later, my mother told me about my bracelet. She said that we went shopping with her my dad and brother, and all of the sudden my bracelet broke in three fragments. Later that day, I had a call with my grandma, and she said that that it indeed happened and that my parents had sent the bracelet back to her after it broke, and someone must have given me the evil eye so my bracelet absorbed all the bad and that's why it broke into fragments all of the sudden.
