Gold bracelet & chain
Do you have any objects that are special to you and your cultural identity? Well for me there are a few objects starting with my gold chain and bracelet. The gold chain and bracelet was the last gift my grandmother gave to my father before she died. My dad later gave it to me on my 12th birthday and said to wear it for good luck and keep it as a family heirloom. Another object is a statute in Cape Verde. The statute was a symbol of municipal power, and of slavery: rebellious slaves were punished publicly at the Pelourinho. Erected in 1512 or 1520, it is one of the oldest monuments of Cape Verde. My father told me our people still keep it there to serve as a reminder to our people to never let any type of event like that happen again. Lastly is not an object but food. My grandfather on my dad's side makes the best homemade apple pie. My grandfather is known for loving pie and would make this homemade apple pie for family gatherings. My grandfather never tells the recipe to anyone but it’s very good and something I'd like to make for the future for my kids someday.
