Garnet Rings and Jewelry Box
My artifact is a jewelry box with two rings in it. This was passed down to my mother from her grandmother. My great grandmother gave it to my mother because they have the same birthstone. The birthstone is garnet, and it is the January birthstone. My great great grandmother came to America from Sweden when she was 17, to work. She married a lighthouse keeper's son who immigrated from Norway. Together they had my great grandmother. While she was alive, she got the gold ring with the garnet stone. She also got passed down the jewelry box with the white gold garnet ring. We think it was passed down to her because she has the January garnet birthstone. The jewelry box has the name Elin on it. That is a Swedish way of spelling Ellen. We do not know who owned the white gold ring and box. We think it can go five generations or further back.
