Finnish Clock
Relationship:
Child of im/migrant
This wooden clock, carved in the shape of the map of Finland, was handmade by my relatives in Finland as a wedding gift for my parents in 1996. My dad is half Finnish (his dad's side) and half Italian (his mom's side), and my mom is Filipino; my dad's grandparents (on both sides) immigrated to the U.S. in the early 1900s, and my mom herself came here from the Philippines in 1994. This clock is so special to my parents and me because it exemplifies the strength of our family bonds despite differences in culture and generations of separation.
Year: 1996
