Feve
When the calendar strikes the 6th of January, my family and I are bound together in the name of Jesus. As a non-religious family we carry this tradition with us as our ancestors did. It is a light hearted celebration for the birth of Jesus Christ and the gifts he got many days after by the three kings (Gaspar, Melchior, Baltasar). We celebrate this momentous occasion with a traditional cake, the Galette de rois. In this cake we can find a “feve”, a little chip that you may find in your piece naming you the King/ Queen of the year. Throughout the years me and my family have gotten feves and have gotten our little paper crowns commemorating the good fortune our year may hold. In the image you may see some of the different ceramic feves you can get in your galette but the possibilities are endless. Our family celebrates the French way, but it is celebrated throughout the world largely in Puerto Rico, Spain, Italy, and france. Me and my close family like to bring one guest/ friend to join in on the celebration, giving them a chance for good fortune as well. Seeing the Smile on their faces as they pick out their feve is such a great feeling as they get the crown. Three kings day is not only a religious holiday in celebration of Jesus but its a day you can spend with friends and family to celebrate each other.
