Family Picture
My family is from the Dominican Republic, back in the island we would all gather from time to time at my grandma’s house, all the adults had jobs they were passionate about, careers and degrees. Once the family started to immigrate to the U.S.A, most had a hard time assimilating and getting jobs within their fields of studies. They went from teaching in schools and working in hospitals to working at delis, supermarkets and as home attendants, and their degrees became useless. It was a hard transition, but it was a sacrifice they felt they needed to do for future generations.
I choose this picture because we hang it in our leaving room to be reminded of the unity of the family, our roots and our traditions. Along with the sacrifices that some of our family members have made for us.
