Family Bracelet
Although I live far away from my grandparents and the majority of my extended family, I always feel connected through the gold and silver beaded bracelet that has been passed down through many generations. My mothers side of my family is from Italy and I have learned a large amount about this part of my heritage from my grandmother and my great grandmother. My great grandmother moved to the United States in the early 1900s from Italy and brought a gold and silver bracelet with her. This bracelet was given to her from her own grandmother and it has recently been passed to me. My mother kept it in a special wooden jewelry box since before I could remember and only wore it at special family occasions. I recently turned 18 and this bracelet has been given to me to wear during future special occasions. Because I only grew up with my mother and her side of the family, this object makes me feel particularly connected to my family members and proud of who we are. I intend to continue this tradition into the future and am excited to pass this on to my oldest daughter on her 18th birthday.
