Falafel

Relationship: Child of im/migrant

My family loves to cook. Food is a very important part of every culture because it helps bring families together. Food is what also brought my mother and and my father together. One thing my mom never told anyone is that she loved to explore and go to beautiful places . She also loves visiting places she has never been to before. She has always loved going outside and wanted to know what is out there in the world for her to explore. My father came in the picture at the right time. My father came to visit my uncle at his house in Egypt to talk about going to America to live a better life and the challenges they might face. That’s when he met my mom. My mother made food and decided to make our family’s famous falafels which was a secret recipe. They fell in love instantly after talking a few bites. They both found out that they were born explorers and wanted to travel. Later after, they left their families and went on to America to find better life and explore. Food is what brings my family together on Holidays and celebrations. My mom wanted to pass that tradition over in America. I grew up eating falafels and I still do. Thanks to my mom and her great cooking skills, I am able to live here, get great education and freedom.
