Erhu
My item is a Chinese Violin also known as the “Erhu” and was given to me by my grandfather. The Erhu is a 2 string fiddle that originated in Central Asia. It is important to my family and I because of the memories we shared with our grandfather before he passed away. When I was a child my grandfather would play his Erhu for our family during special occasions such as birthdays, holidays, etc. From his playing, I learned that the majority of traditional Chinese music is usually energetic and positive. Music is an important part of our family as it helps us express our emotions and manage stress. There are many things that you can learn about your culture just from the traditional music and I am glad my family has taught me about our culture. I hope I can pass on my items and cultural knowledge to someone else.
