Empanadas
My grandmother was born in Guatemala, and moved to the United States around 1968 just a few years before my mother was born. As my mother grew up with her siblings it was common that there would be Empanadas one night a week for dinner because they were very easy for my grandmother to make during her busy day of working, and it reminded her of her past in Guatemala. Whenever my grandmother comes to visit us this is always one of the foods she makes as a way to pass on the tradition to my sister and I. My mom has taught my sister and I how to make empanadas from scratch so that one day we can pass on the recipe and keep the tradition going for many generations to come! It is important that we continue this tradition because it is a little reminder of where we came from.
