In Jamaica, it's a tradition to eat fish during Easter. Honestly, I never really questioned why, we just did it. I grew up with it being normal as part of the holiday. Every Easter, my mom would fry up fish, bammies, and make a spicy pepper sauce to pour over the fish. I thought this tradition came from the story of Jesus when he fed 5,000 people with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish. That is a big part of Christian teaching and Jamaica is very big on Christianity. But when I asked my aunty she told me "It’s in the Lent season so most people cut out meat like chicken or pork and beef and stuff like that so because fish is a preferred choice and it goes better with the bun and it can be prepared from overnight and not required to reheat". Because we were not allowed to light fire until after midday on Good Friday so you would prepare food for Good Friday from the day before and we would have fish. it’s not required to be reheated so it’s easier to prepare that fish overnight to have that for your breakfast and lunch.
