dangling earrings, with the evil eye
dangling earrings, with the evil eye

My mom would always tell me this story whenever she got the chance to and that was hen she was young one day my grandma bought her and her siblings jewelry from a street vendor. My grandma bought my mom a pair of earrings that contained the evil eye. The evil eye is an ancient symbol of protection that is said to keep evil eyes and negativity/bad luck away from the person wearing it. My mom told me that she would always wearing them, that she was so happy when my grandma bought them for her. My mom and her siblings immigrated to the United States from a young age, where it wasn't until a few years ago wear my grandma was finally able to visit us here in the United States and my mom and her siblings were able to see their mom in person for the first time in over 20 years. She kept it with her for all this time, stored away in her jewelry box. When I was younger I remember being scared of the evil eye, it just always creeped me out and one day my mom sat me down and explained to me the story of the evil eye and why it's so important. It wasn't just my mom who owned it all of my aunts at least had one piece of jewelry associated with the evil eye, my sister as well. Whether the evil eye is real or it's just a superstition I think choosing to believing in something so beautiful and pure is a lovely thing. Over the years my mom has gifted both me and my siblings objects associated with the evil eye and in the future I hope to pass down the story of the evil eye to my kids and gift them with jewelry so that they will always be protected.
