Driedel
My object is called a dreidel. Dreidels are used on a holiday called Hanukkah. The way reidels are used on Hanukkah is you get 8 gelt ( chocolate coins ) per person. It’s all depending on how people play you put in 4 pieces of gelt in the middle to start. Then with the dreidel it has 4 letters: Hay ה = get half, Gimmel ג = get everything, Nun נ = give or get none, last Shin שׁ = share half and all of those letters together means “A great miracle happened there” . If you have the most gelt or get a gimmel you win the whole game. The meaning of Hanukkah is, there was a king named Antiochus who came into Jerusalem. He told the Jewish people to give up their beliefs and follow his instead. One of his orders was to destroy the Jewish temple and throw out the Torah books. He told them not to practice their religion. While that was happening there was a guy named Judah Maccabee who thought what was happening was wrong and he and his brothers decided to stand up and fight for freedom. Him and his brothers formed an army together to go against king Antiochus and because of their great soldier skills they won. They went to reclaim the temple in Jerusalem and found a small container of oil enough to keep a menorah burning for 8 nights.
Since kids weren't allowed to read the Torah they snuck it whenever Antiochus wasn't around. When he was there they hid it and played with dreidels. Dreidels are made of wood, plastic, or clay. Last, for my ancestors, did you sneak the torah? Did you play with dreidels? Did you ever enjoy Hanukkah?
