Dresser
My Almost 200-Year-Old Dresser
When I was young, I asked about the dresser, but all I got was that it's old. The first note in the drawer says 1842. This means the dresser is almost 200 years old, and the most recent note is dated 1999. The dresser was transported from Massachusetts to Chicago in a covered wagon pulled by horses.
It's handmade in the 1840s, and all my relatives on my dad's side have had it. My dad got it in 1999, and it was in bad shape, so we needed to refurnish it. We store all of our old stuff in there, old glasses, old phones, and cameras. It's cool to look back at that and see all the old stuff my parents had. We store photos of me as a kid. The locks on the doors are old and original, but the keys have been lost over time.
They got lost probably 50 years ago. We don't know if the thing works. The dresser was made by my great, great, great, great, great grandpa he built it in Massachusetts. The dresser was put in many rooms, like our bedroom and our dining room. The wood was originally stained in 1842, but touched up in 1920.
We obtained it from our great-aunt and uncle; they have a collection of old art. We all love the old stuff in our home.
