Der Lakehof
My great-grandfather was an immigrant from Germany, he came to America with nothing. He died shortly after my grandfather was born, so many German traditions were lost among my family, everything except the book, Der Lakehof (of the Lakemeyers). The book was later given to my mother and she had it translated by a good friend. It was actually written by a man named Eduard Shulte who was a WW2 hero, giving the allies information that would help them win the war. Having someone like this write a book about our family is a great honor. His book gives us insight into our ancestorial roots and history going back to feudal Europe and the beginning of our family farm, which still exists and is maintained by our relatives, the Lakemeyers. It is amazing to have an heirloom like this that gives us so much more than anything else could.
