When most of my family gets together, sports is always on tv regardless of the sport or team, telling funny stories about the past and shuffling a deck of cards. Over time it has become a tradition in the family. Cards came to the family when I was almost a teenager, when we were celebrating my grandpa’s birthday. My siblings, and parents, along with some cousins and uncles will play card games varying from hearts, spades, and 10 down 10 up. Most of the time we will play 10 down 10 up, which is just another version of spades where getting points is a good thing and you want to take what you bid.

My father was the one who really brought playing cards to the family. Growing up with his siblings, playing cards was just a quick way to pass time. When the family now plays cards, it will get competitive quickly and usually ends up with my mom stomping off annoyed and everyone else laughing, even with most games going unfinished due to people quitting or people getting accused of cheating. When the deck of cards comes out when family is around, we know that we are going to have fun and laugh a lot. With some games getting really heated, we always know it’s just a game and still have fun with each other and enjoy spending time together. A deck of cards will always be in my house, and when it is time, my kids will be playing and laughing with us all.
