Cutting Board
The cutting board in the picture represents "Cookie Day" and my great-grandmother. "Cookie Day" was a day where all the women on my mother's side of the family would come together to make cookies for everyone we knew for Christmas. This was always done at my Aunt Linda's house, but the matriarch of our family was running the show. Her name was Barbara Joyce Smith and she was my great-grandmother. She passed in December of 2013 at 90 years old. My great-grandmother was a Catholic woman who believed in tradition and family. Some of these traditions include "Cookie Day", big Christmas Eve celebrations, Easter breakfast, church every Sunday, and sending out birthday cards to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Her traditions have become some of my families traditions and have help shape my priorities and beliefs. My great-grandmother affected my families culture because she ensured that I grew up knowing all my extended family. This has influenced the importance I place on staying connected to my family.
