Cross Necklace
My family has stayed in the same place pretty much my entire childhood. My mom’s parents have always been a huge part of her life and mine and my siblings and lives. As their grandchildren (my siblings and I, as well as my mom’s sister’s kids, my cousins) all got older, we all received the same gift from them on our 16th birthday - a cross necklace. Religion is very important to my entire family, and, while our parents steered us in that direction, it was our choice we had to all make ourselves to follow Christ. So, when their eight granddaughters and one grandson all turned 16, we all received a different cross necklace. We wear these necklaces every day. They remind us of our grandparents who will not be here forever, ushering us to cherish every moment we do get with them. But not only this, they remind us of who we are and who we choose to follow, how we choose to be every single day. I received mine on my 16th birthday in 2023, and my siblings and cousins before that. This necklace is representative of so many things for us. It represents love, family, religion, home, safety and so much more. I will wear my necklace until I am old and gray, and then pass down the tradition to my children.
