Cover/Blacket
In my family, there is a special cover/blanket that is given to every girl by the person they are named after. You are suppose to receive this cover some time after you are born, but I got mine two years later because the person I am named after lives in Senegal, so I got mine during the time I lived in Senegal for two years. There are three purposes for having this cover. One of them is for when you have a baby. When you have the baby, you use the cover to wrap the baby (like a blanket). The second purpose for having this cover is when you want to put your baby on your back to carry it around ( its an African thing). The third purpose for having the cover is for when you get married and move in with your husband. During the move, you are covered with your cover and your husband is covered with his moms cover. It is a big ceremony. You are ( the girl) covered because it symbolizes that a woman is special. It also symbolizes that the husband will never beat/hit you, will always support you and will never disrespect you. So this one thing that is given to every girl, is something more than , it has a special value that symbolizes more than one thing.
