Come home when the sun sets
My parents chose to raise my siblings and I with an outdoorsy lifestyle living on the water in East Beach. This meant we usually spent most days on the beach, at the park, riding bikes or running around with friends. Most kids are raised on the rule “come home when the street lights come on”. However my parents chose a different method. Come home when the sun sets. I spent many nights as a child under the setting sun, admiring the beauty behind the colors of the sky. Our parents made it a point to spend time together outside during this period of time especially as life got busier and harder to spend time with each other. Sunsets will always have a strong sentimental value to me not only because they hold many memories of my childhood and a sense of comfort but as well as after I lost my dad, sunsets have been a way for me to still feel connected to him like we are still watching them together.
