Coastal Carolina Newspaper
The object I chose was a newspaper from Coastal. Specifically the issue titled Big Win, Broken Bones, Bad Behavior, from after the Coastal Carolina versus Appalachian State football game. I chose it because I do not have any heirlooms at college, and it reminded me of my family. I knew my family would like it because it tells the story of students at Coastal rushing the field after winning the game and how five people broke their ankles from the drop. To clarify, my family would not be laughing because people got hurt, but because in their eyes it meant that people were having fun. For generations my family has enjoyed spontaneous activities where getting injured is a possibility. The newspaper itself was printed through the school newspaper, The Chanticleer and was then distributed across campus where I picked it up. While a newspaper from my university about an event I attended may seem insignificant to my family’s heritage, it represents my family’s idea of fun and memories as we have many stories passed down of my relatives doing things most people would view as nonsense. I was happy to share this newspaper with my family because although I was not someone who got hurt, it was my own story to add to our tradition.
