Civil War Letter Home

Group:

My object is a letter written by Robert Eaton Love, and it was sent home to his wife, Mary. The letter was written on October 24th, 1861, in which Robert was located in a house in Bowling Green Kentucky recovering from the measles. It was written on Civil War era, Confederate army stationary. Robert Love was my Great-great-great grandfather, or my grandpa's great-grandfather. This letter has been handed down through generations and is currently in my grandfather's possession. This object is important due to its connection to a significant time in U.S. history, when the United States was in a condition in which the two sides of the country were fighting against each other for something that would effect the other for years to come. Robert Love was killed in the Battle of Shiloh in the following year, 1862. He was 32 years old, and was survived by a wife and three kids.
