My object is a chest from my great-great grandmother whenever she used it in 1890. The chest is mainly made from tin which is painted black. The chest also has wood that surrounds the top of the chest. Additionally, there is a leaf design that is imprinted on the tin. My great-great grandmother received this chest from her cousin in Germany to travel over to America. She stored her clothes, sheets, and important valuables in this chest. She specifically remembers being thirsty the whole time traveling to America, and she couldn’t drink any of the water around her since it was sea water. She also remembers seeing a lady in the water which was the Statue of Liberty. After she arrived at Ellis Island, her family immigrated to Texas. From there, the chest remained with her until she passed it on to her daughter, Regina Schaefer, which was then passed down to my grandmother. She had it for a while until she passed it onto my mother. Currently, the chest rests next to my mother’s bed.
