Casa Broglio Restaurant

Casa Broglio was an Italian restaurant founded by my great-great grandparents on my mom’s side in Independence, Ohio. My great-great grandparents immigrated from Borgofranco, a historic agricultural town in Northern Italy to New York City, where they got married before moving to Independence. Casa Broglio was founded in the 1930s and my grandfather lived above the restaurant during his childhood. My mother and her seven siblings also grew up visiting her extended family in Borgofranco where they learned to make the family recipes served in the restaurant, including my mom’s favorite Chicken a la Cacciatora. Casa Broglio was an offshoot of Birreria Broglio., the family restaurant in Borgofranco,  illustrating how the U.S. acts as a melting pot for different cultures, allowing people like my Italian ancestors to bring aspects of their roots and share it with America, creating the unique culture we have today.
