I was born on the island of Fogo in Cape Verde. Cape Verde consists of 10 islands which the 10 stars on the flag represent. The blue represents the ocean and sky, the white represents peace and the clarity of our aspirations, and the red represents the effort and struggle for economic development. My parents and my siblings moved to Massachusetts in the year 2000 when I was seven years old. My parents wanted us to have better opportunities and that is why we moved to America, to the state of Massachusetts and settled in the town of Brockton. I haven't been able to visit the island since being here although all of my family members have. I do want to visit soon because their is so much that has changed and evolved since coming and I would love to see it for myself. I have some fond memories of being there and I am anticipating all the nostalgia when I eventually go back.
