Cameo pin
This pin is from my great, great, great grandma. She lived in the 1800s in a city called Minsk, which is in Russia. She had 4 children - 3 sons and 1 daughter. The daughter was my great, great grandma, and her name was was Dora Okun. When Dora was 16 years old, in the year 1910, she came to America from Russia. This pin was one of the only things they were able to take from Russia. At that time, they were forced to leave Russia because they were Jewish. They had to sneak out of Russia and they could only take a few things with them. They dressed in a lot of clothes and they sewed this pin into the lining of their coat to hide it. They had to sneak at night to get to the boat, with this pin and a few other valuables. Finally, they made it to Ellis Island and they lived in Brooklyn. My great, great grandma Dora gave the pin to my great grandma Jeanette, who gave it to my grandma now.
