Brass Elephants
An object (or two, rather) that I believe represents my family’s heritage are these brass elephants. They were made in India, though, unfortunately, I do not know when they were made. My parents got them when they lived in Guyana, and brought them to this country when they moved here. I feel that elephants can describe my Indian heritage because elephants were very popular in India. People of power usually rode on the backs of the gentle giants. They were also used to display the vibrant and colorful Indian art. Elephants were painted with many colors and sprinkled with gold and silver. These elephants may not be painted with vivid colors, but I believe they are just as special and can accurately portray my family’s culture just as well.
