When was the first time your parents told you, your family history? My mom first told me about our family history in elementary school by giving me a book called displacement. She told me how this book is all about how my obaachan got sent to an internment camp in world war 2. How people used to treat my obaachan bad, call her a "Jap" or an alien all because of her being Japanese.This book had pictures and descriptions of Japanese Americans only being able to take one bag to camp and they slept where the walls were so thin you can hear other families snoring. But one part the book didn't show was how she had to sleep in horse stalls and shovel poop at the Washington fair grounds. I value this book because it was the first time I could physically see what happened to my obbahcan. Because when my mom told me these stories it was too hard to imagine it in my head. This book will be passed on to my children so they can learn and see their history and see what their great great grandmother had to go through. So they know their history and who they come from.
