My family, or my parents, are from Praia, Cape Verde. My mother had just graduated from High School in Cape Verde when her petition had gotten approved. She flew to Boston, MA with her younger brother to meet her mother whom she hadn't seen for 6 years. It was pretty much the same situation for my father. It was difficult for them to adjust to the culture and they both had to attend high school (again) here. 

The image I included comprises a Bole/Gourd and a Bindi. The Bole/Gourd is used to make butter and buttermilk. The Bindi is used to make cuscuz de milho. I chose these items because having cuscuz with milk was my favorite after-school snack at my grandmother's house.
