Birth Certificate

This is a birth certificate from Italy. It gave my dad information about his family while he was trying to get his Italian citizenship. (Sadly, he failed, due to some shady stuff my family did.) It is made out of paper that probably came from a tree, south of Naples, where my family lived.  It's my great great grandfather's birth certificate. He came to the U.S. in 1910 and arrived in Ellis island. Soon after, he got married to his wife, and then moved to the Bronx.I chose this object because I am proud to be Italian, and because the person this birth certificate belongs to was one of the first (if not the first) person in my family to immigrate from Italy to the United States. This birth certificate shows me that in the time period of the 1890s to the 1910s times were tough in Italy, and that's what caused so many Italians to immigrate to the United States. The object I chose belongs to my great great grandfather, Raffaelo Pastore. He immigrated to the US in 1910, because of poverty and starvation. He then moved to the Bronx with his wife, shortly after leaving Ellis island. (He was 20 years old.)I do have some questions I would like to ask my great great grandfather, if he were still around.      How was the boat ride?     Were there any other reasons you left Italy?     Why the Bronx?     How was your experience at Ellis island? Also, I would like to say that this project has been great. I have learned so much about my culture and my family!
