Bell
The bell came from a place called Chittagong in present-day Bangladesh (before India’s partition it was part of India). This bell was located in my maternal grandmother’s family temple which was destroyed during rioting. My great-grandfather rescued this bell and a few other objects from the temple before it was completely demolished. The temple, before it was destroyed, was part of the family for almost 150 years, so it is believed that the bell is at least 150 years old, as it was part of the temple since it was built. According to my grandmother, there were three bells in the temple - one that she got from her mother that was further passed on to my mother, who took it with her when coming here. The other bell is with my grandmother’s sister, and there is no information about the whereabouts of the third bell if it was destroyed or someone else in the family inherited it. This bell has a lot of significance to my family as it represents our family history as well as our family migration to the United States.
