Great Grandmother's Apple Pie Recipe

My great-great-grandparents packed up their things and came to America around in the 1920’s.  They moved here from Austria after struggling financially, and they came here looking for a new and improved life.  They had 4 kids, and my great grandmother, Magnalina Taugner was just 11 years old when her family arrived.  They were processed at Ellis Island, in a long and hard couple of days.  My great-great-grandmother knew that by the end of all the health check-ups and customs, their family wouldn't be together.  Knowing this, she sent each kid with different items from home to help them in the new world.  One thing my great grandmother received was an apple pie recipe that her mother had always baked for her.  She made it for her kids and made sure the recipe was passed down for more generations after her.  Now we have the recipe, and even though it is all worn and hard to read, we still use it.
Every year on Thanksgiving, my family and I all work together to make this pie.  It’s a tradition that has happened for as long as I can remember.  Although I never met my great grandmother, this recipe allows me to feel a connection to her.
