My family has had a fireman hat passed down for the past few generations. It is from my dad's side of the family and has my great-grandad as the first owner. He used this hat while he was a volunteer fireman in Amityville, New York. This is important because it has been in my family for a long time and was something that my great-grandad used since he liked to help people out. This community was important to him since he had lived there his whole life, and my Grandad was raised there. My dad used to love and wear it when he would visit my Great Grandparents in the summer and for Christmas. I used to wear it when I was younger since I thought it was very cool, but it wasn't until later that I learned it was more than just a fireman hat. Amityville is famous for the Amityville horror movies which were very popular starting in the 1970's. My dad also used to love visiting his grandparents in Amityville since they had other kinds of fireman gear that went with the fireman hat and he used to love playing with it while eating his grandmothers fruit jams and jellies she made with the fruit in her backyard. This is a very interesting family heirloom that has lots of memories behind it and I hope to keep this in the family for years to come.
